A growing number of American evangelical Christians are strongly supporting Israel’s control over the West Bank, citing biblical justifications. This stance has led to the repression of Palestinian Christians, who face land seizures, attacks, and restricted access to holy sites.
Leaders like Daoud Nassar, a Palestinian Christian writer, have expressed frustration with the inaction of some American Christian leaders on this issue. “When the Bible is used to justify land theft and war crimes against civilians, it puts the faithful in an awkward position,” he said.
Nassar’s concerns are echoed by others who have witnessed firsthand the impact of Israeli policies on Palestinian Christians. Alice Kisiya, a member of an old Christian family, was physically attacked by Israeli settlers and had her family restaurant torn down multiple times. She believes that American Christian leaders should experience these difficulties to better understand the situation.
In contrast, some American and European Christians volunteer at Tent of Nations, a Christian community that promotes nonviolence and advocates for peace. The Nassar family, who run the farm where Tent of Nations operates, have faced similar challenges from settlers but continue to hold out for human rights and dignity.
American Christian leaders have been vocal in their support for Israeli policies, including annexation, which has led to concerns about the promotion of violence and inequality. As one leader noted, “Persecution is happening” among Palestinian Christians, and more American Christians need to take a stand to address these injustices.
