Former NFL Cornerback Patrick Peterson Announces Retirement

Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Patrick Peterson has announced his retirement from the National Football League after a 13-season career. The eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro played for the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the first 10 years of his career, before joining the Steelers in 2023.

Peterson, 34, showed significant versatility in his final season, playing in nearly all defensive snaps and recording a career-high 42 tackles. He was released by the Steelers after one season to save $6.9 million in salary cap savings.

Throughout his career, Peterson collected numerous accolades, including being named to the NFL’s All-Decade team of the 2010s. He finished with 652 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and 36 interceptions, solidifying his Hall of Fame credentials.

Peterson had expressed hope to return to the Steelers, but ultimately decided it was time to hang up his cleats. His retirement marks the end of an illustrious career that saw him play for three teams – the Cardinals, Vikings, and Steelers – over 13 seasons.
