PlayStation 5 Prices Set to Rise Amid Trump’s Tariffs

Sony has announced it will raise the price of its PlayStation 5 console in some international markets, including Europe, as suppliers warn that other consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch 2, may see similar price hikes due to tariffs. The US Customs and Border Protection recently announced exemptions for certain electronic products, but game consoles are not exempt from the tariffs.

The price increase is attributed to “a challenging economic environment” with high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates. In Europe, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will cost €569 (from €449.99), while in the UK it will be £429.99 (from £389.99). Australia and New Zealand will also see similar price increases.

An internal memo from a major Chinese supplier for Nintendo suggested that the upcoming Switch 2 could face a price hike, which was reportedly not factored into Nintendo’s initial $450 price. The US pre-orders for the Switch 2 were delayed due to Trump’s tariff announcement, but Nintendo has stated that tariffs were not considered in the console’s pricing.
