Google has introduced a new security feature to its Android devices, which will reboot automatically if not used for three consecutive days. This move aims to enhance phone security and protect user data.
The new feature is part of the April 2025 Google System release notes and applies to most Android devices, excluding wearables like the Pixel Watch and other non-smartwatch items. It may also apply to tablets but this has not been confirmed by Google.
This automatic reboot is designed to prevent unauthorized access to phones that do not have lock protection enabled, such as PINs or biometric unlock methods. By requiring a PIN for entry after each reboot, the phone becomes harder to access for malicious actors.
Moreover, the feature reduces the time available for authorities accessing seized devices, providing an additional layer of security.
It is worth noting that this new feature will not be toggled or customizable by users. However, it will be enabled through the Google Play Services update, allowing users to enjoy enhanced phone security without needing a full system update.
