Acclaimed musical theatre stars, including Bernadette Peters, Bonnie Milligan, Halle Bailey, and Julianne Moore, are set to star in a new movie musical about the world of community theatre. The film will be written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who is also penning original songs for the project.
Produced by A24, Topic Studios, and Fruit Tree Productions (led by Broadway alum Emma Stone), the film boasts an impressive creative team, including Tony-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, music supervisor Steven Gizicki, executive music producer Bill Sherman, and cinematographer Drew Daniels.
Eisenberg, a native New Yorker who began his career on stage, brings his unique perspective to the film. With credits in Broadway revivals such as “Summer and Smoke” and Off-Broadway productions like “Asuncion”, Eisenberg is well-equipped to tackle the story of a shy woman losing herself in a role after being cast in a community theatre musical.
