Google Play Services Update Rolls Out Auto-Reboot Feature for Security

Google has rolled out an update to its Play services, which will automatically restart Android devices that have been idle for 72 hours. The feature, available in version 25.14 of the service, aims to enhance security by returning devices to a secure state when they haven’t been used in a prolonged period.

When activated, this feature will reset the device to its “Before First Unlock” state, encrypting data and making it harder for unauthorized access. This is similar to how devices are secured on some other platforms, such as GrapheneOS, which also offers an auto-reboot feature with customizable timing.

The new update may take a few weeks to reach all compatible Android devices, but users shouldn’t need an OS update to receive the feature. However, Google has not disclosed any specific details about supported device versions or user-facing settings for this feature.
