US Airlines Cut Flights Amid Recession Fears

US carrier United Airlines is reducing domestic flight schedules by four percent starting this year due to declining demand for travel in the country amid recession fears. The move may lead to fewer flight options and higher prices.

United, which calls itself the largest airline in the US, reported strong demand for international flights, particularly among premium passengers. Ticket sales for overseas trips rose five percent in the latest quarter.

The airline’s CEO, Scott Kirby, said that despite economic uncertainty, United expects to expand its lead during challenging times. The company has also introduced changes in loyalty programs and credit card fees, citing a need to balance increased costs with added benefits.

United operates the largest passenger network globally and recently launched high-speed Wi-Fi on select planes, targeting high-end customers for work events. However, these efforts may be overshadowed by domestic flight cuts as recession fears persist among consumers.
