Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava has entered the College Football Transfer Portal with a do not contact tag, signaling his intention to leave the program. The move comes after Iamaleava’s relationship with the team seemed to deteriorate last week.
Iamaleava was negotiating a new deal with the Volunteers’ NIL collective but couldn’t agree on terms ahead of spring practice. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel informed the team they were “moving on” from Iamaleava, who had initially sought $4 million on his next contract.
The transfer portal will play a significant role in determining where Iamaleava lands, with many experts suggesting he will be seeking much more than his initial asking price. A top recruiting prospect, Iamaleava threw for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.
With the spring transfer window set to close on April 25, Iamaleava’s camp has just over a week to find a new school. Several marquee programs have shown little interest in Iamaleava, with one general manager stating he believes he has “zero market” right now.
