HBO has confirmed the first cast members for its highly-anticipated “Harry Potter” TV series. The show now boasts six new additions, including John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
Additionally, Luke Thallon will play Quirinus Quirrell in a recurring role, while Paul Whitehouse will appear as Argus Filch. Francesca Gardiner, the showrunner and executive producer, expressed her excitement over the new cast members, saying they bring “extraordinary talent” to the series.
The main roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione remain unfilled, but an open casting call was held in the fall with over 30,000 submissions. Filming is expected to begin this summer as HBO describes the show as a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series.
