Max’s Harry Potter TV Series Casts Four Regulars and Two Recurring Roles

Max has officially cast four series regulars and two recurring roles for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The newly announced cast includes Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. This marks the first casting announcements for the highly anticipated series, which is set to premiere on HBO Max.

The franchise follows the life of young wizard Harry Potter, whose parents died under mysterious circumstances when he was very young. He lived a miserable life with his aunt and uncle before being freed by Hagrid’s invitation that changed his life forever. The adventure begins as Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione become students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The series comes from writer-showrunner Francesca Gardiner, executive producer alongside Mark Mylod, who will direct multiple episodes for the streaming platform in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros Television. The show is touted as a “faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, which includes seven novels.

Production is set to begin this summer at Leavesden Studios, around 20 miles from London, where the films were shot. The casting news has been welcomed by the production team, who expressed their excitement about the new talent joining the project.

The eight hit Warner Bros films released between 2001 and 2011 will not be part of the series unless they are casually introduced like in the films. However, more time could potentially be devoted to the longer novels, such as Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Casting is still underway for major roles including that of the titular wizard, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Prospective actors should be between 9 and 11 years old as of this month.
