The New School Relists Manhattan Townhouse at Half Original Price

The New School has relisted its Downtown Manhattan townhouse, originally priced at $20 million, for $9.95 million – about half of its initial asking price. The five-story home in Greenwich Village features a classic red-brick facade and was used as a residence for university presidents. Renovated in a contemporary style, the 4,100 sqft home boasts five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and original marble mantles.

Built in 1850, the townhouse has undergone changes while maintaining its historic charm. The primary suite features two full bathrooms, a library with a fireplace, and a private terrace overlooking the backyard. A double-height atrium on the garden level brings in natural light from both the front and back of the house, protected by zoning regulations.

Listing agent Matt Lesser says the university’s decision to reduce the price is based on comparable sales of nearby townhouses. The home is now listed for sale after being used as a residence and never rented out by The New School.
