A German palliative care doctor has been charged with murdering 15 of his patients by administering lethal drugs without their knowledge or consent. The 40-year-old suspect allegedly killed 12 women and three men, aged between 25 and 94, between September 2021 and July 2024.
Prosecutors claim the doctor set fire to five different homes in an attempt to cover up the killings. In one instance, he tried to burn down a woman’s apartment but failed, and instead informed her relative claiming he was standing outside their home.
The suspect is accused of using a cocktail of lethal drugs, including an anaesthetic that paralyzed respiratory muscles leading to fatal respiratory arrest. A “lifelong professional ban” and “preventative detention” are being sought for the suspect, who remains in custody pending trial.
