JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has expressed concerns that President Donald Trump’s rollout of tariffs is undermining the United States’ credibility in the world. Dimon, one of the most influential figures in the US, warned that the US values that make it a dominant global player are being eroded.
Dimon pointed out that the US pre-eminence rests on certain values such as prosperity, rule of law, and economic strength, which cannot be undone by Trump’s policies. He also cautioned against the potential risks of recession or stagflation resulting from tariffs, citing concerns from economists, investors, and traders.
The JPMorgan CEO stated that the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s tariffs is challenging the US economy’s reliability, calling it “disorderly” and suggesting a lack of clarity in the administration’s approach. Dimon urged policymakers to be clear-eyed about their goals and engage with allies to achieve them, rather than going solo with “America First” policies.
Dimon’s warnings are not new, as he previously expressed similar concerns in his annual letter to shareholders last week.
