Puerto Rico Power Outage Leaves Island Without Electricity

A massive power outage hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday, leaving the island without electricity after energy plants unexpectedly shut down. Genera, a power generator, reported that it was working to bring backup units online and investigate the cause of the incident.

The outage began at 12:40 p.m. local time and all plants were still offline by 2 p.m., according to real-time data from Genera’s website. Energy distribution company LUMA Energy stated that the power outage would be addressed, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.

Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez issued a statement on X, saying “We will provide updates as soon as more details become available regarding the cause of the outage and the timeframe for restoring service.”
