Warner Bros.’ new vampire thriller “Sinners” is aiming for a domestic box office debut of $45 million to $50 million, but will it be enough to dethrone the reigning champ, “A Minecraft Movie”? The film, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, has generated excellent reviews with a near-perfect 99% average on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Sinners” cost $90 million to produce, but the studio is confident in its star power. Jordan’s collaboration with Coogler, who also directed “Creed” and “Black Panther”, could help the film establish itself as a box office success without relying on recognizable IP. The duo has already demonstrated a knack for creating hits, with “Black Panther” grossing over $2 billion combined.
The film follows twin brothers who return to their hometown in the 1930s after World War I and face a greater evil. With a strong cast, including Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, and Delroy Lindo, “Sinners” has the potential to bring in significant revenue both domestically and internationally.
“A Minecraft Movie”, on the other hand, is looking to collect $40 million to $45 million in its third weekend of release. The film has already generated over $283 million domestically and $557 million globally, making it the year’s highest-grossing movie and a potential billion-dollar blockbuster. Despite “Sinners” ambitious box office goal, it remains to be seen whether the new vampire thriller can dethrone the reigning champ in the upcoming weekend’s box office charts.
