Urban Meyer Slams Tennessee’s Handling of Nico Iamaleava Situation

Former Jaguars coach Urban Meyer has weighed in on the highly publicized Nico Iamaleava saga, calling it a “disaster” for the player. Iamaleava skipped a practice, and despite the team moving on, they now face an uncertain future at quarterback.

Meyer stated that Tennessee is “screwed,” citing their current lack of options after quarterback Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre, who will likely be relied upon to fill in. The situation has sparked criticism, but Meyer believes Tennessee may not be as well-prepared for the upcoming season due to their handling of Iamaleava’s departure.

Meyer also referenced a hypothetical scenario where Tennessee faces Florida in October, with coach Josh Heupel addressing the media from the 50-yard line. This lighthearted jab highlights the PR battle between Tennessee and Iamaleava’s team, which has largely fallen in Tennessee’s favor. However, Meyer warns that Tennessee could still lose the football war, and Iamaleava may not find a better situation elsewhere.

Iamaleava is currently in the transfer portal and will likely find another team for 2025. Despite this, he and Tennessee did enough last year to make the college football playoff.
