Gene Hackman’s Troubled Home Exposed in New Police Photos

Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa’s home, which has become a breeding ground for rodents, was recently exposed through new police photos and videos. The multimillion-dollar compound, where the couple lived together until their deaths, revealed a cluttered and unsanitary environment.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office released the footage, showing officers walking through rooms filled with personal items, including dog crates, beds, books, and prescription bottles. One officer mentioned that they had smelled something upon entering the premises before finding Arakawa’s body in one of the nearby areas.

Hackman’s daughters stated that their father and stepmother were “very private” and did not allow maids or cleaners into their home. However, the new evidence suggests that the couple was unaware of the dire state of their home, with reports of dead rodents, droppings, and nests found throughout the property.

Arakawa’s health issues were a concern for her husband before her death. A recent email revealed that she had canceled an appointment due to flu-like symptoms, while her computer search history showed purchases of Boost Oxygen canisters.

The unsanitary conditions ultimately contributed to Arakawa’s passing, attributed to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), a rare rodent-transmitted virus. Hackman died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, advanced Alzheimer’s disease, and was found in the same house where his wife’s body was discovered.

The couple’s estate has been trying to stop the release of their death records, including autopsy reports and police videos. An ongoing discussion surrounds who will inherit Hackman’s $80 million fortune, which is unclear due to outdated legal documents.
