Amazon Secures Pacific Rim TV Series Deal with Legendary Television

Amazon has officially secured a deal to develop its highly anticipated Pacific Rim TV series, which marks a significant expansion of the franchise’s media presence. The series is written and executive produced by Eric Heisserer, known for his work on Shadow and Bone.

As part of the deal, Legendary Television will collaborate with Amazon MGM to bring the show to life. This move comes after Amazon acquired streaming rights for the fourth Neon Genesis Evangelion anime rebuild film, Thrice Upon a Time, and the new Mobile Suit Gundam anime, Gquuuuuux.

The Pacific Rim TV series is set to serve as a prequel origin story for the franchise, delving into the world where an interdimensional rift has opened in the Pacific Ocean, unleashing giant monsters. The show’s pilot will feature two pilots operating a giant robot called Jaegers, which will share a psychic link and engage in epic battles against kaiju.

This is not the first expansion effort for the franchise, with previous adaptations including John Boyega-starring Pacific Rim: Uprising and Netflix-produced anime Pacific Rim: Black. However, the original 2013 film directed by Guillermo del Toro remains a cult classic, grossing $400 million at the global box office.

As Amazon aims to establish its Pacific Rim show as a standout in the franchise, it will be interesting to see how this venture compares to Legendary’s recent success with the Godzilla Monsterverse expansion through Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
