Diddy’s Sex-Trafficking Trial Seeks Squeamish-Free Jury Pool

Sean Combs’ lawyers aim to pre-screen prospective jurors who are uncomfortable with explicit content, including graphic sex videos and photos, as part of his sex-trafficking trial. The defense wants to identify those who can’t “discuss matters of a sexual nature” with fellow jurors.

The judge has yet to approve a questionnaire that will be completed anonymously by hundreds of prospective jurors before in-court jury selection begins. The proposed questionnaire would ask if the prospective juror can remain impartial and discuss graphic sex, as well as questions about job, family, or health constraints.

This pre-screening process is meant to “flush out” those who may not handle explicit content well, allowing the defense to waste fewer peremptory challenges during open court jury selection. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, but a two-month delay has been sought by the defense team, which prosecutors and US District Judge Arun Subramanian oppose.

Graphic videos, including those taken without consent, will be shown to jurors as part of the trial. The defense hopes to find jurors who are open to arguments about consensual private behavior, while prosecutors seek those who would protect the accusers, who allegedly faced coercion through violence and threats.
