Colombia Declares National Health Emergency Due to Yellow Fever Outbreak

Colombia has declared a nationwide health emergency due to an increase in yellow fever cases, with over 74 confirmed cases and 34 deaths reported since the start of last year. The virus is spread by Aedes and Haemagogus mosquitoes, primarily through mosquito bites.

According to Health Minister Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, the outbreak has reached its most critical point in Tolima, a central-western region of Colombia, where 22 cases have been detected. This declaration comes as authorities work to contain the spread of the disease and protect public health.
