Phoenix Ikner, 20, has been identified as the Florida State University shooter who killed two and injured five others in the Tallahassee campus incident on Thursday. He is the son of Jessica Ikner, a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy, and was part of the LCSO Youth Advisory Council.
Police confirmed that Ikner used his mother’s former service firearm to carry out the attack, which was recovered at the scene. Authorities believe his mother legally purchased the gun before it became her personal property, making it accessible to him.
Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil vowed to prosecute the suspect and send a message of zero tolerance for such acts in the county and across the nation. The shooting occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. EDT on Thursday, with police securing the campus at around 4:10 p.m. As the investigation continues, multiple law enforcement agencies remain on site.
The incident has been linked to alleged social media posts by Ikner, which appear to show him attending anti-Trump protests near the FSU campus. Two people were confirmed dead and five others injured in the shooting.
