Microsoft Makes Copilot Vision Free for Edge Users in US

Microsoft has removed the paywall for its AI-powered feature Copilot Vision, making it available for free within Microsoft Edge for users in the United States. The new feature allows Copilot Vision to view what’s on your screen and provide insights into the content. Initially limited to paid subscribers, Copilot Vision can now be used without a subscription when paired with Microsoft Edge.

The feature is currently compatible with nine websites, including Wikipedia, Amazon, and Food & Wine, but its capabilities are expected to expand as support for more websites is added. Microsoft CEO Mustafa Suleyman described Copilot Vision as “pretty amazing” and emphasized its ability to think out loud with users when browsing online.

Users can interact with Copilot Vision in various ways, including by typing questions or using voice commands. The feature is designed to be hands-free and optimized for use with voice interaction. However, Microsoft has taken a more measured approach to rolling out Copilot Vision after the backlash surrounding Windows Recall, an AI-powered tool that scans screenshots at regular intervals.

Both Copilot Vision and Windows Recall are optional features that require user consent to function. Microsoft’s decision to make Copilot Vision free for Edge users in the US aims to provide greater transparency and security measures for its users.
