A 27-year-old British man has died after being swept away by an avalanche at a ski resort in the French Alps. The incident occurred on Thursday morning near the Val Thorens resort, where the man was standing by the roadside when he was caught in the snow.
According to local officials, the Briton had gone into cardiac arrest before police officers could reach him and pull him out of the snow. He was taken to a hospital in Grenoble, where he sadly died later that evening.
The French authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while the UK’s Foreign Office has confirmed support for the family of the deceased man. The recent heavy snowfall has caused disruptions across the region, with thousands of homes left without power and several roads and rail routes cut off.
