Record Snowfall Hits Alps, Many Resorts Closed

A massive snowfall is sweeping across the Alps, with the heaviest snowfall in 24-25 ski season recorded so far. The storm has already closed many resorts and raised concerns over flooding and avalanche danger.

As of now, only a few resorts have reported official snowfall measurements: Verbier with 75cm (30″) and Tignes with 105cm (3.5 feet). In the French Alps, La Plagne and Chamonix have also posted significant snowfall, while Val d’Isere has seen an astonishing 1.2 meters (four feet) of snow.

However, many resorts are closed due to extreme avalanche danger. Skiers are advised not to venture off-piste or onto unofficial terrain. The storm is expected to continue today, but there’s potential for excellent skiing over the Easter weekend on still-open slopes.
