Discord Lacked Safety Features, NJ Attorney General Says

New Jersey’s Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin has filed a lawsuit against Discord, alleging the popular messaging app misled parents about its safety features. The suit claims Discord knowingly allowed sexual and violent content to reach minors, leaving them vulnerable to online predators.

The investigation, which took multiyear to complete, found that Discord failed to protect its young users despite its own policies. The company allegedly misled parents about its direct message settings, resulting in cases of explicit image transmission and sextortion.

Discord denies any wrongdoing, stating it has made efforts to improve safety features. However, the lawsuit is part of a growing trend of similar litigation against TikTok and Meta by New Jersey’s Attorney General’s office.
