This comes as Chinese President Xi Jinping embarks on a historic visit to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit. The coincidence is striking, as it marks the 50th anniversary of the fall of Phnom Penh in Cambodia in 1975, when the city was captured by the Khmer Rouge, backed by China. On the same day, Xi arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport to conclude his regional tour.
