Chiefs GM Brett Veach Unfazed by Potential Trade Back in NFL Draft

Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has expressed skepticism about the team trading back from the first round in next week’s NFL Draft, despite being open to it. According to Veach, there are fewer teams looking to move up and acquire a pick as late as Kansas City typically picks every year.

“I think we do a pretty good job of fielding calls,” Veach said on Thursday. “But I don’t remember getting a ton of calls on Day 1 in the last four or five years.”

Veach suggested that teams rarely trade down because they believe the top prospects are available later in the draft. He also noted that he has a tendency to be aggressive, but acknowledged that the top end of the 2025 draft is not as deep as previous years.

“From a pure number standpoint, I think we could make a deal work,” Veach explained. “When you have picks on the front end with grades 75 or higher, and then pick up from there, I think it’s within our wheelhouse.”

In recent years, Veach has benefited from players sliding into Kansas City’s reach, earning him a reputation as a GM who likes to trade up. However, he remains cautious and focused on making the best decision for his team.

The NFL Draft is set to begin this Thursday at 7 p.m. Arrowhead Time.
