Late-night host Stephen Colbert sparked outrage with a joke about President Donald Trump during his show on Tuesday’s (April 15) The Late Show. Colbert was discussing the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was deported to El Salvador despite a judge’s order. Trump’s administration had admitted that the deportation was an “administrative error.”
Colbert made light of the situation with a joke: “You mean to send the email to just one guy in accounting and instead you kidnap a man and send him to a prison in El Salvador.” However, Trump has defied the Supreme Court’s orders, sparking criticism from Colbert.
The comedian emphasized that court orders are not suggestions, but rather a call to action. He likened it to following a bathroom sign, saying, “The Supreme Court has to have more power than the bathroom sign that says ’employees must wash hands.'” The audience’s laughter soon turned into groans as Colbert mouthed, “Wow.”
Meanwhile, Colbert unveiled a new music video on his show, titled “Billionaires Are Actually Good,” which included a surprise appearance from Alan Cumming.
