New York International Auto Show Kicks Off with Electric Vehicle Emphasis

The 125th anniversary celebration of the New York International Auto Show kicked off at the Jacob Javits Center, featuring over 100 years of car history, including some of the hottest cars from as early as 1909. This year’s event puts a strong focus on electrification, with four new electric vehicle test tracks and test ride opportunities for visitors.

Attendees can take a ride in the brand-new electric Cadillac Escalade IQ, among other impressive electric cars on display. Tickets are available online or at the door for $22 for adults and $8 for kids. The event runs through April 27 for the general public.

New York City is also making strides towards reducing its carbon footprint by overhauling its fleet of cars with electric vehicles. The city announced it’s purchasing 16 new Ford Mach-Es for the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission, with a goal to have 45% of the agency’s fleet electric by June.

In five years, the TLC aims to have a fully electric fleet. “We’re always looking for ways to innovate and invest in our city’s decarbonization goals,” said Louis Molina, DCAS Commissioner. For those who can’t attend in person, tune into Eyewitness News’ Inside the Fast Lane on April 19 at 7 p.m., featuring meteorologists Lee Goldberg and Brittney Bell alongside sports anchor Ryan Field.
