Oura Introduces Symptom Radar – Advanced Health Monitoring Feature

Oura, a leading smart ring brand, has released its new feature, Symptom Radar, which assesses biometric data for early signs of respiratory strain. The feature, rolled out to all members with the Gen 3 Ring and Oura Ring 4 as of December 9, 2024, uses key metrics such as HRV, temperature, breathing rate, and heart rate to detect potential deviations from a user’s baseline.

Symptom Radar analyzes data in three severity levels: no signs, minor signs, and major signs. It also provides a history graph for users to track trends over time, allowing them to identify patterns and changes in their biometrics. Members can view the specific markers that contributed to a Symptom Radar result, including how they deviate from their baseline.

The feature is based on Oura’s existing health risk management (HRM) platform, which uses algorithms to alert users when symptoms show up. Symptom Radar builds upon this foundation, offering more accurate and detailed insights into respiratory strain. According to Oura, the feature can detect skin temperature variations as small as +0.5 degrees Celsius (+1 degree Fahrenheit).

Symptom Radar aims to provide users with early warning signs of common colds and flu-like symptoms, allowing them to take proactive steps towards recovery. The feature encourages users to switch on Rest Mode, which pauses activity goals and focuses on rest instead, highlighting recovery-based metrics.

Oura’s commitment to accuracy is evident in its 99% temperature accuracy compared to lab standards, making Symptom Radar a valuable addition to the brand’s suite of health monitoring features.
