Rock Drummer Accused of Child Exploitation

Rock drummer Joseph Seiders, 44, from Palm Desert, was arrested on April 9 for allegedly recording cell phone videos of boys in the bathroom of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Palm Desert. The incident occurred on April 7, and an 11-year-old boy reported that an unknown male adult recorded him while he used the restroom.

Deputies responded to a report of a “suspicious circumstance” and later found evidence linking Seiders to both reported incidents and other crimes, including possession of child pornography. He is facing charges of possession of child pornography, annoying/molesting a child, invasion of privacy, and attempted invasion of privacy, with a $1 million bail.

Seiders joined the Canadian indie rock band The New Pornographers in 2014, after performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio in 2011. The band released a statement on Instagram, expressing shock, horror, and devastation over Seiders’ arrest, and severing ties with him immediately.

The investigation is ongoing, and sheriff’s investigators believe there may be additional victims. They are seeking information from anyone with knowledge of the incident or potential victims to call Investigator Arnoldo Iñiguez at 760-836-1600 or sheriff’s dispatch at 951-776-1099.
