Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025 has begun, bringing news about new movies and shows. The most anticipated announcement is the title of the next theatrical installment, set to arrive in 2027. “Star Wars: Starfighter” will take place approximately five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Little is known about the story, but rumors suggest a focus on Jedi or Force-sensitive characters.
Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) will direct from Jonathan Tropper’s script, with Ryan Gosling confirmed to star in the project. A 20-second teaser was released, featuring the logo and epic music, and a May 28, 2027 release date has been set. The use of the “light of the Jedi” symbol backs up the rumors about Jedi involvement.
Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker is expected to have a small role in this story, paving the way for her own movie and the post-IX state of the galaxy. Casting for other major roles is underway, with Anora star Mikey Madison reportedly passing on the project and Jesse Plemons circling a villainous role.
The announcement comes ahead of an all-new trilogy and other unrelated theatrical entries in development. Fans can expect numerous casting updates in the coming weeks and months as the project moves forward.
