The highly anticipated finale of CBS’ new series “Matlock” drew an impressive 5.6 million viewers, wrapping up its first season as the broadcast’s most-watched new series. The episode aired from 9-11 p.m. ET on Thursday and became the night’s most-watched program across broadcast.
Including delayed viewing, “Matlock” ranks as the No. 1 new broadcast series and No. 2 overall broadcast series. The show averaged 17 million viewers across broadcast and streaming, with a total of 9.67 million viewers after a week of viewing on CBS alone.
The finale saw Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) finally come clear to her partner Olympia about her mission to expose Jacobson Moore for concealing a study that would’ve taken opioids off the market years earlier. However, just as they thought they had solved the case, a discovery in the final moments plunged Olympia into a crisis of morality.
Creator Jennie Snyder Urman revealed that the second season will investigate this new mystery, taking the show in new directions while still connecting to the first season’s storylines. “Matlock” is now available to stream on Paramount+.
