As Earth Month arrives, experts are sounding the alarm on a growing concern: microplastics. These tiny plastic particles are found in our makeup, groceries, water, and even our bodies. Jessica Oley, founder of Pristine Sprays, warns that avoiding plastic use is key to reducing exposure.
Dr. Stephanie Widmer, a medical toxicologist, notes that the full effects of microplastics on human health are unclear, but there’s evidence suggesting chemicals in these plastics can harm us. Meanwhile, microplastics disrupt ecosystems, harm wildlife, and damage soil and water quality.
The good news is that simple changes can make a difference. Avoid using plastic pots and pans, and opt for single-use plastics only when necessary. By limiting our plastic use, we can reduce the risks associated with microplastics.
