Red Robin fans who eagerly purchased the Bottomless Burger Pass for National Burger Month were left with a surprise charge of $682 instead of the expected $20. The burger chain’s website crashed during the promotion, making it difficult for customers to access their passes.
The error, which affected a small number of customers, caused the full value of the pass ($682) to be displayed on Red Robin’s gift card partner’s website. However, after investigating, Red Robin apologized and processed refunds immediately.
“Everything we could do was not enough to avoid this,” said a Red Robin spokesperson. “We sincerely apologize for any confusion.”
Red Robin’s website received millions of online visits during the launch, leading to a crash. The burger chain has sold out of passes, but customers can still enter for a chance to win free burgers for a year through its “Red Robin Royalty Sweepstakes.”
