Corso, known for his iconic headgear picks and witty banter, has been a staple on the program since 1987. During his tenure, he has dressed up as various mascots and figures, including the Fighting Irish leprechaun and James Madison, and has seen his headgear picks go 286-144 in his 430 selections.
Corso’s affection for his fellow analysts, particularly Kirk Herbstreit, whom he credits with being like a “second father” to him, is well-documented. The two have been part of the show since 1996 and have shared numerous memorable moments on-air.
ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro praised Corso as an “influential and beloved figure in the history of college football,” who has developed a special connection with generations of fans through his entertaining style and iconic headgear picks. The network announced that additional programming to celebrate Corso’s legacy will be released in the days leading up to his final broadcast on August 30.
Corso, who suffered a stroke in 2009 but made a remarkable recovery, has expressed gratitude to ESPN for providing him with opportunities and support over the years. His colleagues, including Rece Davis and Chris Fowler, have also shared their appreciation for Corso’s dedication to the show and his enduring impact on college football.
Corso spent 28 years as a college and pro football coach before joining “College GameDay,” where he became synonymous with the program’s entertaining brand of analysis and camaraderie.
