American Idol Contestant Doug Kiker Dies from Accidental Overdose

Doug Kiker, a contestant on season 18 of American Idol, has died at the age of 32 due to an accidental overdose. The Denver Medical Examiner confirmed the cause of death as the combined toxic effects of fentanyl, methadone, and amphetamines, along with recent cocaine use.

Kiker’s sister, Angela Evans, shared the news on Facebook, saying he was loved by many and would be deeply missed. Another family member, Donna Kiker Carrillos-Ramirez, also paid tribute to Doug, describing him as an amazing person who knew how to make people laugh.

As a sanitation worker, Kiker earned the nickname “The Singing Garbage Man” during his time on American Idol. His audition impressed judges, including Katy Perry, and he was later invited back to perform with country trio Rascal Flatts.

Kiker’s life has been marked by both music and challenges, including an arrest for domestic violence in 2021. However, he also found success with an independent film project titled “Garbage Man,” which premiered on Vimeo in 2022. He is survived by his two daughters.
