Microsoft is taking steps to discourage users from installing Windows 11 on unsupported PCs, which could lead to a lack of updates and security vulnerabilities. The company has added a new watermark to the Settings app that notifies users when their PC does not meet the minimum system requirements for running Windows 11.
The TPM 2.0 chip requirement is a key factor in this decision, as only newer PCs with this hardware feature can run the latest version of Windows without compatibility issues. Microsoft recommends downgrading to Windows 10 if an unsupported PC is used, despite plans to end support for the operating system next year.
This approach has raised concerns among users who feel that Microsoft is pushing them to upgrade unnecessarily. The new watermark and notification warning will prompt users to acknowledge that their PC is not supported and may be at risk of security vulnerabilities without regular updates.
