British Steel workers are cautiously optimistic about the future of their plant in Scunthorpe, despite facing significant challenges. The steelworkers, who have been through financial struggles before, want reassurance that the problems are being addressed.
On Monday, BBC News spoke to workers, just days after an emergency parliamentary vote aimed at saving the plant. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds stated that the government had no choice but to act in response to British Steel’s reported £700,000 daily losses. The company, which is owned by Chinese firm Jingye, has been struggling financially since its acquisition in 2020.
