A motorcyclist, Geoffrey Stirling, 45, was fatally shot by a Newport Beach police officer during a traffic stop on Thursday, April 17. The incident occurred after Stirling became uncooperative with the officer and assaulted them. He took the officer’s Taser from their duty belt and attempted to use it on the officer multiple times.
The incident occurred near Coast Highway between Superior Avenue and Hoag Hospital at around 9:15 p.m. Authorities said the stop was made for an undisclosed traffic violation.
An unrelated court appearance by a man with the same name is scheduled for Monday, April 21, regarding a felony arson charge.
