Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring. The move is retroactive to last Thursday, when Marsh felt discomfort in his back and hamstring after attempting to field a ball hit by San Francisco.
Manager Rob Thomson described the strain as “mild” but expressed optimism for a swift recovery. Marsh will travel with the team on its upcoming trip, participate in drills, and begin a minor league rehab assignment once he can run at full speed.
Marsh is hitting .095 with one home run and five RBIs over 17 games. He was hitless in his last 31 at-bats. The Phillies also recalled outfielder Cal Stevenson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, who has seen recent success with a .192 batting average and five RBIs in 16 games this season.
With Marsh’s injury, Johan Rojas is expected to see increased playing time in center field, where he was hitting .345 with a .406 on-base percentage and three stolen bases in limited time.
