Easter Celebrations Around the Globe Amidst Turmoil

Christians worldwide are celebrating Easter Sunday amidst a backdrop of turmoil and destruction in various parts of the world. Despite the challenges, people came together to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The rare alignment of church calendars saw Christians from Orthodox and Western churches observing the holiday on the same day. In Lebanon, dozens attended Easter mass at a church that had been almost completely destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. Pakistan’s Christian minority community also celebrated with prayer and traditional suits.

In Ukraine, worshippers came together to celebrate Easter as they waited for a priest to bless their baskets of food and eggs. Despite the ongoing war, the arrival of Easter brought hope and unity among the people. The ecumenical message of Pope Francis was received with enthusiasm by Catholic faithful in Rome, who gathered to see him despite his pneumonia recovery.

In Greece, thousands of fireworks lit up the night sky during the traditional “rocket war” to celebrate Easter. The event, which saw two rival congregations engage in a dazzling spectacle of light and sound, marked the solemn resurrection night as a triumph over death and grave.
