Casely, a Brooklyn-based company, has issued a massive recall of its wireless phone chargers over safety concerns. More than 400,000 units have been recalled due to lithium-ion battery overheating, expansion, or fire, resulting in six minor burn injuries.
The affected chargers, known as Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone chargers with model number E33A, were sold online and at various e-commerce websites from March 2022 to September 2024. Consumers who purchased these chargers are urged to stop using them immediately and contact the company for a free replacement.
Lithium-ion batteries in these chargers pose a significant fire risk due to their potential to start fires when not handled properly. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises consumers to dispose of recalled lithium-ion batteries through special household hazardous waste collection centers or by contacting local municipal officials.
Consumers should be aware that lithium-ion batteries can emit odors, produce excessive heat, leak, make unusual noises, or change color or shape if they pose a fire risk. Before purchasing any product containing these batteries, look for the “Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory” stamp to ensure safe handling and use.
