Bluesky Rolls Out Blue Check Verification Feature

Social media platform Bluesky has announced its rollout of blue check verification, confirming earlier rumors about this feature’s introduction. The new feature aims to verify notable accounts, making it easier for users to trust the authenticity of posts.

The initial phase will involve working with a select group of “Trusted Verifiers” – independent organizations that can verify accounts as members of their team. For example, companies can use blue checks to verify public relations team members, increasing user trust in these sources.

Bluesky’s moderation team will review each new verification to validate authenticity. The platform already has a basic form of verification, which allows users to set a domain they own as their username. This helps distinguish genuine accounts from impersonators.

The introduction of blue check verification is particularly beneficial for public figures like celebrities, journalists, and politicians, who are often targeted by disinformation. According to Bluesky, 270,000 accounts have linked their username to a website, indicating interest in this feature.

Initially, the platform is not accepting applications for verification, but it plans to launch a request form in the future. The introduction of blue check verification aims to provide an additional layer of trust and authenticity on the platform.
