Cavs Dominate Miami, Take Early Lead in Eastern Conference Series

The Cleveland Cavaliers dominated their series opener against the Miami Heat, winning 121-100 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The Cavs set the tone early, taking an early lead and never looking back.

Coach Kenny Atkinson praised his team’s hard work and competitiveness, saying “we need to do the same tonight” as they look to send a message to their opponents. The Heat were unable to keep up with the Cavs’ high-powered offense, which shot 51.1% overall and 41.9% from beyond the arc.

All-Star point guard Darius Garland explained that the team’s success was due to everyone connecting on all cylinders, moving the ball and attacking closeouts. “That’s Cavaliers basketball,” he said.

MVP candidate Donovan Mitchell led the way with a game-high 30 points, his seventh consecutive Game 1 where he has tallied at least 30 points. Reserve Ty Jerome also shined in his playoff debut, scoring 28 points on 10 of 15 from the field and 5 of 8 from 3-point range.

The Cavs will look to continue their dominance in Game 2, hosting the Heat on Wednesday night with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
