Nintendo Sues Discord Over Massive Pokémon Leak

Nintendo is seeking to identify the person behind last year’s massive Pokémon data breach, known as the “Teraleak,” on a Discord server. The company has sent a subpoena to Discord, requesting that the platform hand over the user’s identity, address, phone number, and email address. This comes after leaked materials, including source codes, character designs, and upcoming game details, were shared online.

Discord has yet to publicly comment on Nintendo’s request. If the platform complies, “GameFreakOUT,” the leaker’s username, may face a lawsuit. This is not the first time Nintendo has pursued legal action over Pokémon leaks. In 2020, individuals who distributed leaked strategy guide photos were ordered to pay $150,000 in damages each.
