Cassian Andor is back for a second season, and it’s an improvement over the first. The show has refined its structure, making each episode feel like a self-contained story while still contributing to the overall arc of the series.
Diego Luna shines as Cassian, showcasing his character’s growth from a petty thief to a leader of the rebellion. Stellan Skarsgard and Genevieve O’Reilly deliver standout performances as Luthien Rael and Mon Mothma, respectively. The villains, played by Denise Gough and Kyle Soller, are particularly intriguing in their struggles with the Empire.
However, as Andor gets closer to its final destination, some moments feel more like setup for Rogue One than completion of the characters’ stories. This is a common issue in prequels, but it’s mitigated here with well-executed performances and clever storytelling.
The season’s structure, which feels like 4 episodes rather than 12, is a notable improvement. The year-long gaps between each episode create a sense of scale and highlight the characters’ growth. This structure also allows for subtle changes in the characters over time, adding depth to their development.
Despite its flaws towards the end, Andor Season 2 delivers a masterclass in storytelling. With well-crafted performances, engaging characters, and clever plotting, it’s clear why this show has gained such a loyal following.
