Pokémon Leaker Identified by Nintendo in New Subpoena

Nintendo has requested Discord to hand over the personal account information of a user who leaked internal documents and game builds from developer Game Freak last October. The leak, known as the “Teraleak,” revealed sensitive data about upcoming Pokémon games and sparked widespread interest among fans.

In October, Game Freak confirmed that it had been hacked, exposing over 2,000 pieces of employee data. However, it did not mention that confidential data related to its work on the Pokémon franchise was also accessed during the breach.

The leak included references to Gen 10 Pokémon games for Switch 2 and allegedly contained source code for the upcoming 2025 game PokémonLegends: Z-A. Nintendo’s new subpoena suggests it may have tracked down the Discord user, but it is also seeking information about anyone else who worked with them.

This is not the first time Nintendo has requested Discord to identify a user involved in sharing copyrighted materials. The company has taken similar actions against users who shared scans of unreleased artbooks and channels related to Switch emulators. The “Teraleak” is no exception, and Nintendo’s efforts to protect its intellectual property continue.
