CDC Lab Closing Disrupts Disease Tracking Efforts

Lab scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been investigating a viral hepatitis outbreak affecting dozens of patients across six US states. However, recent cuts to the CDC by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. led to layoffs that effectively shut down a lab capable of tracking antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea cases. This closure disrupts efforts to monitor diseases such as hepatitis and “super gonorrhea” in the country.
