Sharon Lokedi, 31, shattered the Boston Marathon course record on Monday, as Boston celebrated its 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. Lokedi outran two-time defending champion Hellen Obiri over the final mile, securing a historic victory. She finished in an unofficial 2 hours, 17 minutes, 22 seconds, 19 seconds ahead of Obiri and nearly three minutes faster than the previous Boston record set by Buzunesh Deba in 2014.
Lokedi’s win marked her second major marathon triumph, following her 2022 New York City Marathon victory. Top American woman Jess McClain finished seventh with a personal best time of 2 hours, 22 minutes, and 43 seconds, three minutes faster than her previous mark. Annie Frisbie rounded out the top US women’s spots in eighth place, completing the race in 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 21 seconds.
